Edmonton International Airport

Serving Northern Alberta and Northern Canada, Edmonton International Airport is one of Canada's fastest growling air passenger and air cargo airports. 1. Location and Facility

Edmonton International Airport is located in Alberta Canada. Serving over 5.2 million people in 2006, the airport is situation in the Edmonton Capital region. Nestled the towns of Devon and Beaumont and the City of Leduc, the hub of air transportation is just 35km (22 miles) south of Edmonton's business district. It is easily accessible via the queen Elizabeth II Highway. Easily visible airport signs line many of the area's major highways to direct people to the airport. There are two passenger terminals within the airport. Expansion divided the terminals into two areas. The original terminal and the southern terminal meet to create a chevron shape ("<"). Dining facilities, and several parking facilities as well as a US Border Pre-clearance facility are also located within the airport's boundaries. In the fall of 2007 a Courtyard Marriot is scheduled to begin construction at the on the grounds of the airport.

2. Ground Transportation within the Airport

Getting around an airport can be a traveler's biggest headache next to losing their luggage or missing a flight. Edmonton International Airport has several means of ground transportation to make traveling to and from and throughout the airport as easy and as stress free as possible. They include the Sky Shuttle, Hotel Shuttles, Car Rentals, and Taxis and Limos.

While there is not a public transportation system in place between the city of Edmonton and the airport, the Sky Shuttle offers regularly scheduled transportation between designated pick-up points within the City of Edmonton. These 10 passenger luxury vans allow their passengers comfort and the ability to get to and from the airport with ease. Area hotels offer their guests free shuttle services to and from the airport. They allow their patrons to park their cars for a fee, thus saving their guests looking for parking at the airport.

There are 5 rental car services that give the airport's travelers another way to get to and from the airport. The airport is also served by the Airport taxi Service and Prestige Limousines. Committed to high standards of customer service these companies give the airports passengers yet another way to get to and from the airport. Passengers with special needs can call the cab company or the Ground Transportation Office in advance in order to have a van equipped with handicap access help them with transportation.

3. Parking at Edmonton International Airport

Edmonton International Airport offers its passengers and those who drop off or pick up the passengers several options to park: Value Park, Parkade Park, and Valet Park. Value Park is the most affordable parking. Whether your car is staying for an hour or a week, parking is available with a quick check-in and check out. The parking lot is a fair distance from the terminals; however it offers a free frequent shuttle bus service. Passengers who need help with their luggage can use the free luggage service that is provided. The Value Park is a security patrolled lot, but it is still important to make sure you secure your vehicle. A free Battery jump service is also available.

Parkade Park is a 4 level building with 1800 stalls. Covered walkways allow passengers to easily go between the Parkade and the terminal buildings. It is well lit and security patrolled. The parking costs more than the Value Park. It is also the perfect parking for quick stops for those picking up arriving passengers.

Some passengers prefer to use the Valet Parking service. All you need to do is drive your car to the Valet Parking area located in the Departure Area. An attendant will take your car and register it and whisk it to a parking area. When you return you give the attendant your number, and they will bring your car to you and help you load it if need be. This service is more expensive than the others.

4. Airport Security

Like many airports of the 21st century, Edmonton International Airport takes security very seriously. Strict drop-off and pick-up protocol is monitored, and cars left unattended are checked or ticketed. Only passengers can enter many of the stores, and dining facilities within the terminals. Post security you can find workstations available for your use. The 16 business workstations allow passengers a place to work while waiting for flights. Two are located on the observation deck, one is located near the Information Booth on the arrivals level while the last one is located on the Departures level.

Travellex operates two currency exchange booths. Located at the international gates of the south end of the arrival and departure levels, Travellex offers passengers up-to date currency rate exchanges as well as fax and photocopying services. This service combined with internet service throughout the airport allows passengers easy access to any information they may need without added stress of trying figure out how to get it.

For travelers making same day business trips with Alberta can use the airports free Fly Thru service. This service includes an express line for security screening, reserved parking sections, and web check-in from home. Edmonton International Airport offers a wide range of shopping from convenience stores to boutiques. Some are located pre-security while many are located post-security. When traveling internationally, a duty free shop offers tobacco, alcohol, and perfume at a savings to you. A duty free representative can help you with any concerns you may have regarding customs. From a quick bite to eat to fine dining you can easily find something to eat. You can find dining places in both the post and pre security areas.
