When you need to travel to or from the Brussels Airport, the rail is one sure way to reach your destination. There is a special train that leaves the north, south, and central stations heading for the airport. The north, south, and central station train has pick-up times between five in the morning and eleven at night. The ride on the special train takes about thirty minutes to reach the airport terminal. These trains pick up and drop off in Brussels with the Airport City Express.

If you need to reach Quievrain, De Panne, or Ghent, a direct train takes you to these area stations. This train service is called the Belgian Railways. If you need bus service to and from the airport, you can take the De Lijn transit system that leaves from the city center. The coach buses run to and from Eindhoven, Brussels, and Antwerp.

Taxi services are available at the airport Arrival Hall. You can take these taxis to and from the airport. If you drive yourself to the airport, you want to take the roads that lead to the Zaventem, where you will see the airport signs. If you drive yourself, there is parking for long term and short-term stays.

The Brussels Airport money and communication services make things a little easier when traveling. There are ATM machines located throughout the airport terminal for quick cash. There is a post office and a bureaux de change. If you need to exchange traveler's checks, you can do this at the bureaux de change. The location of the main bureaux de change is available in the Arrival Hall. The ATM machines are found in the arrival halls, as well as in the Shopping Center in Pier A.

If you need a mobile phone for your stay in Belgium, you can rent one at the Communication Center in the Arrival Hall. The phones are for use outside or inside Belgium. The airport does have Internet cables for connecting to the Internet, or they have areas that are set up for Wireless Internet. Wireless Internet is available in public areas, as well as in some waiting areas throughout the airport.

If you need information for getting around Brussels or any other area, the Communication Center can direct you to the right places in the airport. The Center will give you information about train schedules, bus schedules, and available areas for faxing and Internet connections. The Brussels Airport has some services that are not offered at other airports. The Davidt Hair Line is located at the airport for those who want a hairdresser. This service is available for both men and women. The salon is found on the fourth floor of the airport, and they prefer that you have an appointment. You can buy all your hair styling products here as well.

A place to worship is available for different religions including Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Humanist, Protestant, and Orthodox. You can check with the information desk to obtain directions to the areas where the place of worship you need is located. If you need some pharmaceutical supplies, the airport has a pharmacy located on the fourth level of the airport. The Brussels Café is next door to the pharmacy.

If you are looking for fresh cut flowers, the second level of the airport has a vending machine with fresh flowers. If you need a meeting room to conduct business, the airport has several meeting rooms that can hold up to six hundred people. The airport does provide catering services for your meeting, if needed. While you are conducting your meeting, you may want to rent a baggage locker, which is available on the ground level for public use or by the shopping area of the airport.

Shopping at the Brussels airport can be done at any of the little shops within the airport. They have shops for toys, clothes, chocolates, and fashion, as well as tobacco products. You will find a fashion store called Gautam Fashion on Pier A and B. Naturally Cashmere is located on Pier A, and the Tie Rack is on Pier A and B. Kid's Planet is located on Pier A and has something for every child.

The General Store is located on Pier A and has everything you can imagine. You will find travel guides, souvenirs, toys, books, and newspapers. The store has a large assortment of t-shirts and baseball caps. On Pier A and B you will find the Last Minute Shop, which has cosmetics, perfumes, tobacco, and alcohol. You can shop at this store before boarding your flight.

If you need any last minute electronics, CD's, adaptors, memory cards, or digital cameras, Electronics is located on Pier A and has everything you could possibly need on a trip. You will find many other little shops throughout the airport located on Pier A and B, and in the Arrival Halls, the Departure Hall, and the Promenade. You will find shops with last minute travel necessities and accessories.

The Brussels Airport has many little restaurants, cafés, and bars to visit before your departure. You may find some bars and cafés before the security checkpoints, as well as after the checkpoints. Belgium Beer Café is found on Pier A, as is Pizza Hut Express and the News Café. After the security checkpoint, you will find the Tapas Bar, Wing Tips, and Flying Tigers. The Trattoria and Seafood Island are found on Pier A.

You will find one restaurant before the checkpoint called the Brussels Plaza; otherwise, the rest of the restaurants are past the checkpoint. They have a Provencette in the Departure Hall, Quick, and the Coffee Corner, which are located in the Arrival Hall. You will find some of the fast food restaurants at Pier A, B, and Departure Hall. The Seafood & Wine Bar is located on Pier A along with Milestone.

When you are looking for a restaurant with a child's menu, Pilot Club has adult and children's menus and is located at Departure Hall and the Promenade. The Corner Café has snacks, salads, and sandwiches, as well as cold and hot drinks. The Corner Café is located on Pier A of level one. The airport has other little candy shops with soft drinks as well.

When you need somewhere to freshen up or just get away from the airport, the Brussels Airport Hotel has a sauna, fitness room, and a lounge to sit in and enjoy a drink. You can access the hotel by the Arrival Hall. A short walk across the street leads to the lobby in the hotel. You will find two bars and a restaurant for some relaxation before your plane departs. If your plane is delayed for departure, you can check into a room at the airport hotel rather than travel to one of the other area hotels.

The hotel has a laundry service for those who might need to have some laundry done. This is just another service the airport offers to make the guests more comfortable. They have cribs and high chairs for toddlers available at the concierge desk. The hotel does have a business center and a meeting room, if you need something away from the airport terminals.

The hotel restaurants serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have a children's menu, as well as adult menus to choose from when you are dining. The restaurants in the hotel are casual dress and are generally open for room service until midnight. You might want to check with the concierge desk for closing times of the bars and lounges.

The security at the Brussels Airport is as secure as with any airport during these times. The airport has both walking and motorized patrols, and the airport is fenced in for safety. The airport does have security cameras and other measures in place that you cannot see or know about for security reasons. All personnel at the airport wear nametags to tell you who they are and what their specific job duty is so you know whom you are talking to.

The new rule for liquid carry on necessities does not include lip gloss, lipstick, or solid deodorants. These are acceptable when boarding the plane in Brussels. Liquids have to be able to fit into a one-liter see-through plastic bag in order to carry on the plane. You can carry on clothes and laptops, as well as cameras and cell phones.

If you have shoes with metal in them or any other metal items, you need to place these things on the conveyor to be x-rayed, as well as laptops and all other electronic equipment. You should arrive at least two and a half hours before your flight departs to make sure you have enough time to pass the checkpoints. Check with the airlines to make sure you can take the stroller, if it is collapsible, on the plane. You might have to check it at the gate and claim it from the flight attendant when you land. The airline does have different guidelines for strollers, depending on where the flight is headed.

Children traveling alone must be over five years of age. You need to take the child to the Departure Hall where airport supervision takes over the care of the child for the entire trip. The flight attendants take care of the child while in the air. When the plane lands at its destination, a parent or guardian must be waiting for the child.

The airport does have handicap accessible doors at Arrival Halls. They are automatic and make it easier for people with disabilities. If you need assistance for wheelchair users, you can ask for it, and they can help you with all your needs for moving through the airport terminals. If you need to use an airport wheelchair, you should contact the airport ahead of time so they can have one ready for you.

If you do not have help getting through the airport and the checkpoints, you can ask a staff associate to help you from the check in and all the way to your departure gate. If you have your own wheelchair, this is going to be checked into the cargo area. You will need to use an airport wheelchair so your chair can be stored in the cargo area. When you arrive at the destination airport, they will have a wheelchair waiting for you until you pick up your chair at the baggage claim.

If you prefer, a relative can go with you all the way to the departure gate, but they will have to pass through the security checks just like all airport visitors. The airport information desk can explain the guidelines more. Relatives must have permission from the check-in desk.
