Berlin-Tegel International Airport
The most heavily trafficked of Berlin’s three airports; the Berlin-Tegel International Airport services some 13 million passengers per year. The longest runway in Europe was built at the Berlin-Tegel Airport in 1948 during the Berlin airlift, and the airport is scheduled for closure in 2011 when the Berlin-Schonefeld International Airport is expanded and equipped to handle Berlin’s air traffic.
The Berlin-Tegel International Airport is located in Tegel, a section of the northern area of Reineckendorf. It is approximately 8 km northwest of the city center. The airport is easily accessed by car, taxi, or public transit. The A100 and A111 North motorway both have exits allowing airport access and are clearly marked. Parking facilities are available at the airport should you need to leave your car when you depart. Taxis are always available at the airport and can provide you with transportation to your final destination.
If you prefer to use public transit to get to the airport or to your hotel from the airport, Berlin's public transit system is affordable and easy to use. The Jet Express Bus numbers 128, 109 and X9 all run to underground stations in Berlin, for connections to the city's subway system. These express buses offer quick transit, as well as connections to the overland S-Bahn trains at Jungfernheide. There is also bus service to several city center destinations, including Unter den Linten and Franzosische Strasse, with connections to the U9 underground train at Turmstrasse if that meets your needs. Information on Berlin's public transit options is available in the main hall of the Berlin-Tegel International Airport.

There are four terminals at the Berlin-Tegel International Airport. The main hall includes terminals A and B. Terminal C services Air Berlin flights. Terminal D is the smallest, and primarily services TUlfly flights. You will find most airport services in the main hall of the Berlin-Tegel International Airport.
The Berlin-Tegel International Airport main hall is hexagonal, arranged around a large open square. This reduces the overall distance from terminal to terminal or gate to gate, as well as the distance from your gate to relevant airport services. This makes for walking distances of as little as 100 feet from gate to taxi, even when considering luggage, customs, and more. Terminals C and D are significantly further away; however, the majority of flights gate in terminals A and B.
The Berlin-Tegel International Airport is efficient and easy to navigate; however, you should not expect the motorized walkways and other conveniences frequently seen in more modern airports. Quality customer service, good operations, and an easy layout make the Berlin-Tegel International Airport a good choice for domestic and international flights even if it is an older airport. While shops and food services are found in terminals A, B and C, car rentals are situated in terminal D. Airport and public transit information are conveniently located in the main hall, and bus stops are directly outside the main hall of the Berlin-Tegel International Airport.

The Berlin-Tegel International Airport is known for efficiency; however, you can speed the security check process by being well-prepared. Know the security regulations and comply. Throughout Europe and the US, you are allowed a transparent plastic bag of no more than 1 liter/quart in size for liquid, gel or paste toiletry items. These items may not exceed 3 oz in size. You should also be aware of disallowed items and avoid putting these in your carry on luggage. Medications and special foods required during the trip may be transported, but should be presented to the security staff with an explanation of need. Items, including liquids, purchased at the duty-free shops may be transported onto the plane, assuming a dated sales slip is provided and they remain in the sealed bags from the shop.
This is a good commuter airport, with check-ins often progressing quite quickly. While you should allow an appropriate amount of time prior to your flight, you may find that you need less than you might at some airports at the Berlin-Tegel International Airport.
